Apr. 29, 2009 (China Knowledge) - China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd<600050><0762><CHU>, the country's second largest telecom operator, has released the "WO" brand for its 3G business on Apr. 28.
On May. 17 the company will start trial operation of its WCDMA business in the 55 cities with 3G completed networks. The public bidding for network construction in the second batch of cities will begin soon.
The initial 3G services will include wireless access as well as mobile music, TV, search and video calls.
Lu Yimin, the general manager of the company, said the unified, comprehensive "WO" brand will consolidate the company's influence in China.
China Unicom will formally begin offering 3G service by the end of 2009.
